Day Twenty-Three

Taping the vents only worked for a short amout of time. We had to upgrade to two air purifiers and the highest quality furnace filter there is. Good news is I can now be in the apartment with out burning eyes, headaches, and a throat that feels on fire. It still ocassionally has a funky smoke smell... but it is nothing like what it was before. I think we can at least last thru May...after that we will be looking for some where else to call home.

Day Twenty-Two

My husband finally got a drum set! When he moved here, he had to leave his acoustic set beind in storage. I've been wanting to be able to make a way for him to play again. Drums are like his thing... its his hobby, stress reliever, enjoyment...and I know he has missed playing over the last year and a half. So things finally worked out and now he once again can play and now has an electric set to add to his collection. Happy Valentines day, Birthday, and Christmas for 2010!!! LOL! (It was very much worth it!)

Day Twenty-One

We got snow! About 6 inches total. Kev couldn't get into work and my classes were cancelled  so we got a SNOW DAY!! It was fun to sleep in and hang out at home all day together. If only we could have a few more of them before winter is over. I love snow and I don't mind driving in it if I have too. It was a nice comfy kind of day.

Day Twenty

Well the ice/ freezing rain has settled in! No sign of snow yet, but we've got a nice coat of ice to cover everything. Schools are already cancelling for tomorrow and I won't have to wake up early and head into clinicals friday either. I guess its supposed to dump a bunch of snow here on friday. Looks like a SNOW DAY!

Day Nineteen

The moon was so pretty tonight!  I love nights when the moon is out and lights up everything. It has been wonderful weather today and a perfect day for a run. They are predicting lots of snow for thursday. However, I was just outside finishing up a run and it was definately warm... like 60 degrees kind of warm! We'll see what happens!

Day Eighteen

So I know this is not the most interesting picture... but it is currently the best solution for our problem! I came home today to a home filled with tobacco smoke. It smelled like I had been chain smoking all day... unfortunately, it has been leaking from the bathroom vent from our new neighbors apartment. It was a very frustrating situation. For now we have been able to atleast contain the smoke by covering the vent with plastic, putting an air purifier in the bathroom, and keeping the door closed. I'm probably a little optimistic hoping this is just a temporary problem...

Day Seventeen

Merry Christmas to myself!! I have been wanting a CHI flat iron for a couple of years. I finally was able to buy one and got an amazing deal on Ebay! However, it took forever to get here. I was worried for a couple weeks that I had been scammed. I hadn't heard from the seller about when it was shipped and I couldn't get ahold of them. After a long roudabout trip through the mail...it finally made it's way here today. I am excited to use it for the first time! I'm also glad that I hadn't been scammed and was spared the process of opening up a case with ebay and paypal.

Day Sixteen

This is the church bulletin from Church on the Move. Right now they are doing a Q & A series that focuses on various topics and what the Bible says. The topics so far have varied from culutre, marriage, and divorce. One of the cool things they do during the services is if anyone has a question about something, they can text their question and then it will be answered at the end of the service. It's been an interesting series so far and I'm looking forward to the coming weeks.

Day Fifteen

Cardiovascular. This has been my study focus for this week. This is here is a ECG heart rhythm strip. An ECG just measures the electrical activity in the heart and it comes out on graph paper like this. The rhythm shown is not what a normal strip would look like. I like learning about the heart and all that comes with it. It can be so complex at times, with so many different factors influencing the mechanical action of the heart. Hopefully, I remember it all for the exam on monday!

Day Fourteen

Friday I went to my first Tulsa Oiler's hockey game against the Witchita Thunder. What an experience! It definately was not at the pro-hockey level of a game, but it was still fun. Our seats just happend to be right in front of a about 12 boys around the ages of 8 to 12. They were more excited about the advertisements for Elmo live in march than anything that was taking place on the ice. Fights in hockey are pretty much a given and expected. However, this game was completely different than any other I've ever watched.  If the players so much as gave each other the stare down, the ref's were there to keep them apart. The last 50 seconds of the game was the most excitement of the night. Five fights in under 20 seconds on the clock. Tulsa lost the game, but they didn't go down without getting in some good punches.

Day Thriteen

This is the camera and is by far the nicest one I've ever had.  As a kid I had one that used film and had a crank handle to wind it after taking the picture. Then I had the disposible cameras and I still have a few of those laying around. It will be such a suprise when I get it developed. I have no idea what is on it and how old it is! Then I had a digital camera, but it was only a 3 megapixel. This bad boy is a 9.1 megapixel, what an upgrade! This was a pre-wedding gift from my husbands sister and had been such a blessing for us to use.

Day Twelve

This basket is home to my cookbooks and a few free floating recipes. Since getting married, I have enjoyed trying out recipes that I've never attempted before. I usually do not follow the recipe completely. I do a lot of substituting one food item for another because of taste or nutritional value. It is such a feeling of achievement when my husband comes away from a meal full and happy! He likes to eat and I like to cook him food. Looks like it might be a life of happy meals!

Day Eleven

I think it's time for a new watch. This one has been with me on many many runs and races over the last 5 years. Out of all the digital watches, I have liked this one the most. It doesn't do anything special, like a garmin or other high-tech gear, but it has lasted the longest! It still works, but the band has given out and is now held together with duct tape (classy, huh). It is so hard for me to part with something that has been apart of so many workouts, good runs, bad runs, triumphs, and disappointments. I guess when the screen becomes totally blank I will be forced to part with it. Until then, I am okay with my duct tape watch.

Day Ten

Note to self- do not eat an orange or drink orange juice before planning to run anytime within 24 hours. I've made this mistake twice now. The first was juice and today was an orange, but the results were the same. Absolutely horrible heart burn. I do not usually get heart burn, but oranges and running just seem to be the perfect match for creating that problem even if its 4 hours before. The lesson has been learned today.

Day Nine

Today we are Dog sitting. This is Charl E. Bear, better known as Charlie. He's been here for about an hour and pretty much has not left the big patio window. There are some kids out side playing and he is totally into watching them and anyone else who walks by. He gets really excited and I can't quite tell if he likes it or if its overwhelming. Earlier he discovered the large mirror in the dining room... ha ha it was funny to watch him look at himself. It will be an interesting night with him in an unfamiliar place.

Day Eight

Waffles!! I love them! When I lived at home my Mom would make them all the time on the weekends and now that I have my own waffle iron I like to make them and then freeze them. So when morning comes and we need a quick breakfast, throw it in the toaster and I've got waffles!! I used to buy frozen waffles but I like making my own because I know what goes into them. Plus Hodgsons Mill has a great whole wheat baking mix. Sometimes I (hear me out first) substitute cows milk for almond milk. Honestly- there is little taste difference. Just ask my husband the picky eater. He's never noticed. :)

Day Seven

This evening has been a lay on the couch with a warm blanket kind of evening. After spending the last few days on my feet constantly, I appreciate coming home to my basket of blankets and relaxing for a little while. I seem to have developed a thing for blankets and throws over the last few years. I'll take anything to keep me warm!

Day Six

The faucet that never stops giving... ever. I do not like that this faucet constantly runs. No matter how hard I try to twist the knobs it never completely turns off. Im not a plumber but I have a feeling fixing this is not a simple job and would probably require shutting off the water to our building. I guess thats my excuse for not getting it fixed. On the bright side, at least we know that we have running water.

Day Five

This is my philodendron and seems to be the only plant that survives around here. Well I guess the mini cactus is still thriving, but it only gets 1 table spoon of water every month if even that. Earlier I was trying to think about what my photo was going to be today and I realized the tradition that this silly plant holds for me. I can remember my grandmother having one of these and my mother as well. And now I too own a philodendron whose own roots came from my mothers plant and her roots most likely from my grandmothers. Who knows where my grandmother got her roots from. Very possibly another family member. So the tradition of the philodendron lives on!

Day Four

Say hello to the new Asics GT 2150! I have been running in the asics 2000 series for a long time and probably only another runner would get so excited over the newest version of a running shoe! Thanks to my wonderful husband, he bought these for me as a suprise christmas present. After taking the last couple of years off from competetive training and distance racing, I have once again laced up my shoes, strapped on my digital watch, and headed out the door to train for my first half marathon. Theses shoes are my husbands way of supporting me 100%. He may not like to run millions of miles but atleast everytime I put on the shoes I can remember that it was his unconditional and unselfish love that provided them for me. Maybe thats a little cheesy, but cheese it probably my favorite food. Thanks Kev! :)

Day Three

Critical Care Nursing. For the next couple of weeks I will be completing my critical care rotation (which I believe will by far be my favorite). Today I have spent my time reading several chapters. I actualy like reading this text book. I seem to be able to remember what I read easily and learn more than I realize. This one will be a keeper!

Sunday, January 10, 2010

Day Two

The Sunday Lunch Club. Almost every sunday we have lunch with a group a friends, someone cooks or we go out. Today was Joe Mamma's brick oven pizza's. This one here is half bacon chicken ranch and half betty white. The pizza's are so good I could eat the crust alone for days. Happy eating!

Day One

A picture a day... well, I'm going to try atleast. I might be a little late here, seeing how most of these projects start on the first day of the year. However, I'm doing it my way. I think it will be interesting to see a years worth of photos and will be a different look at my life for myself anyways. So with that said, here is to day 1!

These are items that I always have in my pockets at work or clinicals. Although they are all important I think I would go nuts without the chapstick. Hospital air is so dry and my lips take a real hit! I guess now that I think about it, I wouldn't do my job without gloves. They make me fearless to touch just about anything, trusting there are no holes. Ah yes and the ink pen... if its forgotten good luck finding another one! Pens and pencils dissapear quickly. The bandage scissors are brand spanking new (provided by my hubby)... and as you can see, each of these items I just cant seem to do with out!
